The 2018 PCUSA General Assembly voted to support carbon pricing legislation. There is a moral mandate for humanity to shift to a sustainable energy regime “and (the General Assembly) urged the implementation of “national and international policies that create a consistent, rational, and escalating price for emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases, which will reduce consumption and support investment in sustainable alternative energy sources.” Information about carbon pricing can be found on the Citizens’ Climate Website.

Equal Exchange

What if food could be traded in a way that is honest and fair? A way that empowers both farmers and consumers? Equal Exchange works directly with the farmers who produce our food to build alternative supply chains that, against all odds, give farmers a fighting chance and seat at the table.

Second Presbyterian Church promotes buying and selling products that allows the farmers to be paid a fair price for their produce and have better working conditions. We currently have a table in the Gathering Place where you can purchase:

  • Coffee
  • Olive Oil
  • Cocoa
  • Chocolates

About our products...

This oil is made from Nabali olives, an indigenous Palestinian variety that produces one of the highest quality oils in the world. Cold-pressed with a rich, peppery flavor, this olive oil can be used for cooking, baking, and dipping.

Conventional chocolate involves exploitation, child labor and poverty wages. Equal Exchange is committed to transparently source ingredients at fair prices directly in partnership with small farmer co-ops.

Equal Exchange pays a guaranteed price, offers pre-harvest financing, and supports sustainable agricultural projects. These long-term partnerships continue to bring us the best and sweetest beans.
