MISSION ~ SECOND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

SPECIAL OFFERINGS

Presbyterian Women Birthday Offering

Women in the congregation, now is your opportunity to support a long-standing (since 1922) tradition of international mission for women and children. Presbyterian Women sponsor this offering and have contributed over $22 million to many causes all over the world. Four times since 1922 this money has come to Eastern Kentucky and Transylvania Presbytery. In 1966 and again in 1976 PW Birthday funds started the Christian Service Ministry serving many areas of Eastern Kentucky and here in Lexington at Westminster Village.

Four projects are described in the brochure for this year. One in Bolivia to assist women to have economic opportunities, learn to read and write, and take care of their families. Pittsburgh, Albuquerque, and Pharr, Texas are the other three sisters.

Won't you give to make these worthwhile projects happen! The offering was collected on Sunday, June 28, 1998. Join with Presbyterian Women worldwide in doing God's work!

Pentecost Offering - May 23, 1999

We invite you to be with us Sunday, May 23, 1999, as we celebrate the great feast of Pentecost. On this day we will receive the Pentecost Offering.

The theme of this year's offering is taken from Acts 2:37: "The promise is for you." The promise is intended for all those the Lord calls. On Pentecost the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) celebrates this promise and recognizes in a special way our commitment to children at risk as well as youth and young adults.

We encourage our congregation to use the enclosed envelope and contribute to this effort. Our congregation's share of the offering (20%) will be donated to the Lexington M.A.S.H. (Metro Alternative Shelter House). The remaining will be allocated by the General Assembly.

The ministries of One Great Hour of Sharing are a witness to the healing and transforming presence of Christ in the broken and painful parts of God's world.

At Second Presbyterian Church, the One Great Hour of Sharing offering was received through Palm Sunday, April 5, 1998. The children were given OGHS coin boxes at Sunday School. A Lenten Sharing Calendar with suggestions for prayer, learning and giving was sent home with the coin boxes.

CHRISTMAS JOY OFFERING

For over 60 years, Presbyterians have celebrated the good news of Jesus’ birth by giving money to the Christmas Joy Offering.

The Joy Offering provides financial support to those members of the community of faith who need it. Half of the money collected during the joy offering goes to support Presbyterian Racial Ethnic schools and colleges and the other half goes to the Board of Pensions to help support both active and retired church workers and their families in time of need.

An important ministry of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is helping those who continue to serve it. Your gift to the Christmas Joy Offering on Sunday December 21, 1997 helped make that ministry possible!!
