Check in and out

We welcome the children of families attending Second Presbyterian. When you bring your children in the nursery, please follow these procedures:

  • Sign in your child with name, age, parents and where parents can be located.
  • If this is your first time visiting the nursery, fill out a card with name, birthdate and personal information.
  • Hang your labeled tote bag and coat on the pegs by the door under your child's name.
  • If you have a bottle or snacks in the bag, write directions on a card and place on the bag.
  • Please do not leave the church building while your child is in our nursery care.

What to bring

  • A diaper bag with your child's name on outside.
  • Disposable diapers.
  • Pacifier or other item the child needs for security.
  • For infants, bottle and snacks.

Saying goodbye

After checking in, say a quick goodbye. A few tears are normal when little ones leave a parent. This doesn't last long if the child attends regularly. If your child is not calmed in 15 minutes, we will come for the parents. If you think your child might have difficulty adjusting to the nursery, please sit in the back three rows of the sanctuary or in the balcony.

Checking on your child

You should feel free to check on your child at any time. Try to not be seen or heard by your child if you think it will upset him or her. Visits by siblings without parents is not encouraged.

Pickup and checkout

In picking up your child, please move away from the door to assist with traffic flow. Please pick up your child within 15 minutes of the end of the service.

Curriculum

The materials we use for the nursery are stories, songs, puppets, play, videos, art and other age appropriate visuals. We try to coordinate our program with other Sunday school curriculum.

Health information

Please do not bring your child to the nursery if he or she is ill. We trust your judgment. A helpful guideline is to keep your child at home if in the previous 24 hours your child has exhibited any of the following symptoms: fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, discolored running nose, persistent cough or obvious listlessness.

We do not administer any medication to the children.

Toilet training

Tell us when your child has begun toilet training. We will do our best to encourage the children to use the toilet. We take these children in the pre-school bathroom. Until toilet training is mastered, please send extra clothing.

In case of a building evacuation

The nursery staff will take the children from the building, and parents will meet their children in the back driveway.

Please feel free to ask any questions or express any concerns with the nursery staff or any nursery committee member.
