Meet Jim Murphy

Jim Murphy is a native of Lexington, Kentucky. He has been married since 1994 to wife, Michelle, a teacher at Northern Elementary here in Lexington. Jim attended Asbury College, where he received a B.A. in Christian Ministries in 1993. He completed the Master of Divinity program at Lexington Theological Seminary last May.

Jim grew up as a United Methodist. His father served as the Christian Education Program Director and Church Business Administrator at Lexington First United Methodist Church. Jim began his ministry while still a member of the United Methodist denomination, working at churches in: Orlando, FL; Winchester, KY; Westerville, OH; and Gravel Switch, KY.

Jim began working at Versailles Presbyterian Church as the Youth Director in the Fall of 1996. He transferred his membership to that congregation in February of 1997, and continued to work there until beginning his responsibilities here at Second in August of 1998. He was ordained in September, 1999.

Jim enjoys being outdoors, and finds hobbies related to the outdoors to be very refreshing and renewing. Among his favorite outdoor activities are fishing, hiking, and golf. He also enjoys playing the guitar.

Jim and Michelle have a daughter, Caroline, born in April, 1999. Jim and his family enjoy spending quality time with their parents and siblings, and are thankful for strong family love and support.
