Second Presbyterian houses the Helping Hand Program in the church and supports its work through board member and volunteer leadership. Helping Hand has gained national attention for its involvement of volunteers in respite care. The program currently has more than 60 active volunteers who generally work one-to-one with a person with memory loss.
The artwork shown here was made jointly by teams composed of children attending
the Ecumenical Preschool program and
seniors receiving care in the Helping Hand program. The two groups, meeting
near each other in the church, often get together to share experiences.
