MISSION ~ SECOND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

Camp and Conference Recreation

Our church provides leadership and support for Camp Burnamwood, the camp and conference center of the Presbytery of Transylvania. Scholarships are made available for those who might otherwise not be able to attend.

Groups of youth and adults volunteer for camp clean-up days and special work projects as a part of out support of Burnamwood.

Twenty-three children from Second Presbyterian Church
attended Camp Burnamwood for the summer of 1998.

Work Day

Many thanks to all the folks who turned out for Work Day (May 16) at camp. It was a great day and much was accomplished. Thanks to folks from Second Lexington and Harrodsburg United for working on cabin #5. A crew from Pisgah came and did some repairs to cabin #7. The youth from Danville did an excellent job painting Unit Lodge and special thanks to Indian Summer and Estill EMS people for working on the washed out trails. Thanks to Mr. Paul Adams and group from the Richmond church for coming up later and working to clean up the creek trail.

Burnamwood Snowstorm Damage

Many pine trees broke under the weight of the snow the first week of February at Camp Burnamwood. Some are on buildings. Trained and insured tree removal personnel are sought to get the trees off of buildings and remove broken trunks. If you are such a person, and want to help, call Sam Pendergrast (Chair of Burnamwood Camp and Conference Center Board) at the church at 254-7768. If you would like to volunteer to help clear downed trees, call Sam. Or if you want pine wood after the more technical removal is complete, you are welcome to take it. Call Sam, or call Dennis Watson, Burnamwood Site Manager, at 606-723-2572.
