Meet Vertrelle Cameron-Mickens

Vertrelle Cameron-MickensSoprano Vertrelle Cameron has been hailed as a "soprano for all seasons." Her performances of oratorio works include soprano soloist in Handel's Messiah and works of Bach and Respighi. Most recently she was soprano soloist with the University of Kentucky orchestra performance of Beethoven's Choral Symphony under the baton of Dr. David MacKenzie. She recently recorded Verdi Opera Arias in East Germany at the Altenburg Festival with the Ost-West Sinfonie Orchester under the direction of Conductor Herbert Handt.

Ms. Cameron, an IBM Watson Fellow in the Performing Arts, lists performance credits in London, Madrid, Barcelona, Altenburg, and Leipzig. She performed the title role in Verdi's Aida with Tulsa Opera. Other opera performances include Mistress Ford in Falstaff, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni with Michigan Opera, Treemonisha and Musetta in La Boheme with Illinois Opera. She has delighted audiences with her productions of The Magic Flute, Die Fledermaus, and Porgy and Bess during her tenure as Director of Opera at Kentucky State University.

Ms. Cameron is currently a Lyman T. Johnson Fellow at the University of Kentucky and Director of Music at Second Presbyterian Church in Lexington.
